Arkan Simaan a mené une vie de migrant hors du commun. Alors qu’il n’a que trois ans, sa famille quitte le Liban natal et s’installe au fin fond du Brésil, à Anápolis. Il y fait ses études secondaires et intègre l’Université de São Paulo au moment où le pays bascule dans la dictature militaire. Engagé dans la résistance, poursuivi et condamné à la prison, il réussit à s’enfuir et trouve refuge en France.
D’une écriture réaliste et vivante, il narre l’immigration périlleuse de ses parents vers un pays lointain, les dangers liés à son militantisme au Brésil, les difficultés de la clandestinité, son incroyable arrestation, sa fuite et son exil à Paris. Malgré les péripéties inhérentes à l’intégration, la chance lui sourit aussi. Il s’assimile à la culture française, finit ses études et repart, cette fois en Algérie pendant onze ans, où il enseigne la physique. De retour en France, il obtient l’agrégation. Arkan Simaan est un exemple vivant d’une immigration réussie.
Homme de convictions et fort de ses engagements passés, il participe à la fondation de l’ONG Planète Amazone pour défendre les peuples autochtones et les forêts tropicales. Dans ce cadre, il est le traducteur du chef Raoni à la COP-21, puis dans ses déplacements en Europe.

Arkan Simaan has led an extraordinary life as a migrant. When he was just three years old, his family left their native Lebanon and settled in Anápolis, Brazil. There, he completed his secondary education and entered the University of São Paulo just as the country was plunged into military dictatorship. Involved in the resistance, pursued and sentenced to prison, he managed to escape and found refuge in France.
In realistic, vivid writing, he recounts the perilous immigration of his parents to a faraway country, the dangers of his militancy in Brazil, the difficulties of going underground, his incredible arrest, escape and exile in Paris. Despite the vicissitudes inherent in integration, luck also smiled upon him. He assimilated into French culture, finished his studies and returned, this time to Algeria for eleven years, where he taught physics. On his return to France, he obtained his agrégation. Arkan Simaan is a living example of successful immigration.
A man of convictions, and backed by his past commitments, he helped found the NGO Planète Amazone to defend indigenous peoples and tropical forests. Within this framework, he was the translator for Chief Raoni at COP-21, then on his travels in Europe.
